Private Purchase (?) Tommy

The War Department put a stop to private sales of Tommy helmets during the war. This was owned by a member of the home guard and as well as a canvas cover (used for attaching to your gas mask bag) it also has a knitted liner for the owner (who must have had a small head!). The shell has no markings.
